OUR SERVICES
We take pride in offering a healing environment, designed with a fun and friendly atmosphere.
All staff take pride in connecting with each client and making everyone feel comfortable and relaxed in the space no matter the age, sex or differences.
Although we use different therapy approaches they are most commonly used altogether for the most effective results. Therapy is a personal one on one treatment however small group training can be considered for similar goals or used to help as motivation such as children training together or parent with child.
Movement Therapy
A holistic approach to movement ensures the body and emotions are trained as a whole.
We use assessment tools created by JP (international educator) that visually assess mobility of the Myofascial lines through basic mobilisers and if possible asking them to communicate anything they feel. We check in each session with the client or carer how they feel, their readiness for training, hydration, sleep, nutrition, pain and emotions. This way we know what adaptions are required to ensure they leave feeling invigorated and happy, not exhausted.
Myofascia a three dimensional web surrounding all the tissues in the body, so we train the muscles and the body in the same way, moving it in all directions. This can be in the way of games, strength and conditioning exercises using other common gym equipment, cables, weights etc. We use forms of play throughout all the movements to reactivate and reintegrate the tissues, get the endorphins pumping and connect and with our client so they are smiling the entire time. Alternative session formats are available, engagement for those with ASD typically last around 45mins so this is a recommended timeframe, but for other clients such as those with CP we offer intense therapies up to 3 hours.

Wellness
We can help support the client in other areas of their health whether it be nutrition, daily health habits, emotional health and or family health goals. We understand that some traits and habits are hard to change with someone with special needs so we like to offer advice as we chat and learn about the clients throughout the session. If we think you need additional support in these areas we will help referral to appropriate help care providers. Wellness happens within a whole family. Parents need to role model healthy habits to their children for effective changes so we think this is very important to address as well as the other services.
WBV- Whole Body Vibration (Power Plate)
WBV was first used by the cosmonauts to combat muscle and bone loss caused by extended stays in zero gravity.
Power Plate has been linked to a wide range of health and wellness benefits, from strength, balance, flexibility and weight loss to improved circulation, pain reduction, detoxification, stress alleviation, and even reduction in the appearance of cellulite.
Along with delivering great performance for individuals and fitness facilities, doctors in nearly 100 countries use Power Plate to help their patients live life to the fullest. Decades of research have shown that whole body vibration can effectively treat symptoms of conditions ranging from multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and cystic fibrosis, to diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis and locomotive syndromes brought about by aging. You can read more about the Power Plate here.
At The Funside, we have seen all of these health and wellness benefits in clients with special needs moving on the PP as part of their program. Most importantly they leave feeling calm and funnily enough we quite often get hassled to do the power plate as soon as they walk in the door.

Remedial Massage
We can help provide changes to soft tissue structures; tight Myofascial areas, muscles and spasticity can all be improved with various techniques used in a remedial massage treatment.
Children and adults with special needs often develop unbalanced postures from repetitive movements, inactivity or retained neonatal reflexes, this causes chronic pain. Pain cannot always be felt or expressed by people with special needs so that's why its important for someone to be able to feel and assess the body to be able to manipulate changes reducing their chronic pain and restoring balance.
Children with autism are known to have low levels of oxytocin, this hormone can cause feelings of warmth and relaxation and a decrease in stress. Numerous research studies have proven that Oxytocin is released in our bodies during, and after, receiving nurturing touch. A 2007 study reported that oxytocin helped autistic individuals retain the ability to evaluate the emotional significance of speech and also showed a decrease in autism spectrum repetitive behaviours. Adaptions to the therapy are made to different tactile sensitivities. Every treatment is adapted to make it a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
And sometimes the parents just need to take a weight off their shoulders and have a massage too.
